Early Mental Health & Special Needs

SBC Alcohol Drug & Mental Health
Mental Health Services       $1,564,824
Establishes an integrated, accessible, culturally competent and nurturing countywide system of care for children 0-5. Works to provide universal access to appropriate treatment & referral services and ensure effective coordination and collaboration throughout the County.

Early Oral Health

Santa Barbara Education Offices
Health Linkages     $975,000
In partnership with 6 subcontractors, this program improves oral health of children ages 0-5 through education, prevention, screening and treatment

Early Care & Education Infrastructure

Santa Barbara Family Care Center
Resource & Referral        $468,000
Recruitment, retention, and training of licensed family child care providers throughout the County.
First 5 Office of Early Care & Education     $1,500,000
Provides countywide training, stipends resources and technical assistance, improving the quality and availability of care for young children

Home Visitation of Newborns

Santa Barbara County Education Office-W.E.B       $1,750,000
Welcome Every Baby (WEB) is a universal home visiting program for all newborns in Santa Barbara County.

Family Support Initiative

Family Service Agency   $121,302
211 Helpline- Countywide, 24 hour, 7 days a week information and referral service for families.
Guadalupe Union School District    $300,000
Healthy Start Program. provideing case management, service referrals and school readiness education.
Isla Vista Youth Projects        $124,896
Promotes school readiness for young children, including oral health, case management and other screening services.
Lompoc Unified School District
Healthy Beginnings        $360,000
Provides family support services and parent education to families residing in Lompoc.
Santa Barbara County Education Office
Health Linkages        $615,401
Coordinates countywide health screenings, education, and treatment support for vision, hearing and asthma.
Santa Barbara School District
Healthy Start        $605,892
Provides family support and parent education for families residing in Santa Barbara School District.
Santa Maria-Bonita School District        $300,685
Provides family support and parent education for parents residing in Santa Maria.
Santa Ynez Valley People Helping People         $315,000
Provides family support and parent education for parents residing in Santa Ynez.  Also provides transportation and support services for children attending Santa Ynez State Prescholl.
Santa Barbara County Department of Social Services         $150,000
Provides family support and parent education for parents residing in Cuyama Valley.

School Readiness Initiative

Guadalupe Union School   $50,000
Provides twilight preschool classes and summer pre-K camps for incoming kindergarteners.
Isla Vista Youth Projects    $50,000
Provides school readiness and family literacy for parents and children.
Lompoc Unified School District    $72,000
Provides referral for families with children for child development opportunities in Lompoc and trains child care providers in school readiness practices.
Santa Barbara Elementary School District   $69,750
Provides home-based child development instruciton to parents of preschoool aged children and pre-K camps for incoming kindergarteners.
Santa Maria Bonita School   $238,267
Provides twilight preschool classes and summer pre-K camps for incoming kindergarteners.

One Year Community Grants

FY: 2007-08 (Approved to Date) $200,000.


Funds have been expended and allocated for the remainder of fiscal year 2007-2008.  Next submission date for proposals:  May 1st 2008, for fiscal year 2008-2009

Angels Foster Care   $25,000
To support and expand the program and increase the number of foster homes in the county with a special emphasis on physical health, mental health and bonding for foster children
Anti-Defamation League     $15,000
To counter the development of hatred among children by providing early childhood caregivers with age appropriate anti-bias programs and materials in the environments children occupy
Alcohol, Drug & mental Health Post Partum Depression     $17,500
3 projects to be funded: translation of materials, provide training to providers county wide and develop a pilot “peer support and education” program in New Cuyama.
Transistion House     $27,995
To support expansion of infant care center for homeless infants.
Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño, Inc.    $22,500
To utilize a comprehensive & holistic approach to education that will enhance the overall well being of the Mixtec families in Santa Maria.
First Step Autism Center     $7,000
To expand current capabilities for increasing awareness about autism and other developmental disorders to the Hispanic population
Goleta Union School District     $11,424
Pilot program for a pre-kindergarten program for children who have not attended any formal preschool program.
Orcutt Union School District     $6,000
To continue the pilot of a kinder-camp for students who have never attended pre-school, have late birthdays and are at risk students
Family Care Network Inc    $30,000
To enhance the foster care services for abused/neglected children aged 0-5.
Children's Museum of Santa Barbara     $29,710
To work with preschool teachers & families to empower Latino parents to take advantage of local educational enrichment opportunities for young children 0-5.

Friends Club Music/Language Group    $18,350
Expand and Provide speech and language services to children 3-5.

Carpinteria Nonprofit Collaborative    $30,000
To support with the coordination & research of a cnetrally located, comprehensive Network of family support services.

Pre School For All (PFA)    $250,000
Maximize opportunities for access to quality preschool for all four year olds in the County.
Spruce Up for Kids Day 2007
Santa Barbara FCC      $210,000
Support projects that improve the health, safety and quality of learning environments in licensed family child care homes.
The Doorway to Health
Healthy Kids Insurance    $200,000
Provides insurance premiums for children age 0-5 who are up to 300% of poverty level, and do not qualify for other health insurance. This program is coordinated through the Regional Health Authority.
American Lung Association    $26,000
Provides tobacco cessation training and technical assistance to parents and caregivers of children 0-5. Trains non-profit and public agency providers about cessation resources and techniques to encourage tobacco cessation with clients.
