Why is Health Insurance Important?
Improve Access to Health Care
- Children have a medical home – The proportion of children having a medical and dental visit after one year of health insurance enrollment increased dramatically – from 33% to over 90%.
- The increase in medical visits meant fewer days missed from school. Nearly 70% of students did not miss one day due to illness, up from 52%. Fewer than 10% missed three days or more.
- Health coverage means healthier students in our schools.
Prevent Hospitalization While Meeting the Needs of Children
We see noticeable decreases in preventable hospitalizations and emergency room visits. When kids have access to coverage, we can promote public health.
Emergency room visits shrunk to just 4% in 10 months.
